New North Porch Extension

This new north porch extension provides a new lavatory. It is unashamedly designed in a traditional idiom, and look as if it had always been there. The form takes it cue from the south porch, matching the same roof pitch and window details. Field stones and stone dressings are also used to match in with the existing fabric of the church, with local Cambridgeshire roof tiles. However, the side access creates an interesting split in the roof.

The Victorian stone threshold to the original external door was lowered to form level access, with a new encaustic tiled finish to the new areas. The new joinery is oak, with a structural oak door frame to the external door supporting the rafters.

The walls are solid masonry, built with lime mortar. The lavatory is dry-lined with insulation and plasterboard. The walls to the lobby are lime plastered. A bespoke thumblatch affords ideal use for wheelchair users and the elderly. The PPC commissioned the new stained glass window.

This project was carried out when I was with my previous employer Freeland Rees Roberts.
